Quotes for the same two-bedroom flat in Eixample come in anywhere between €350 and €1,400. Nobody is necessarily lying. The hourly rate is only the visible part; the rest is minimum hours, the lift, the parking, the stairs and whether a truck can stop at the door at all.
In Barcelona in 2026 a van with a driver typically runs €25–60 an hour. A truck with two movers is €50–80; three movers €70–100. Small operators advertise €19–28 an hour for a driver alone, which is fine for one sofa and a bad idea for a family home. Extra helpers usually add €15–35 an hour. Weekend and evening work carries a 10–20% surcharge, and IVA at 21% goes on top unless the quote clearly says otherwise.
Minimums matter more than the rate. One hour is common for a van, two to three for a truck. A 60 m² flat with two movers is usually a four-to-six hour job once you count loading, the drive and unloading. A 200 m² villa with a garden full of furniture is a full day, sometimes two.
These are ranges, not quotes. The only number that means anything is a written, itemised estimate after somebody has seen the flat — or at least a video call where you walk the lift, the stairs and the street with the camera.
For a full house, push for a closed price. It protects you from a slow day and protects the company from your 400 books. For a small move, hourly is usually cheaper, because the job really does take two hours and nobody needs to pretend otherwise.
Either way, get it in writing with: date, address and floor, whether there is a lift, the volume in cubic metres, what is included (packing, materials, disassembly), the insurance limit and the payment terms. A company that will not put that on paper is not a company you want holding your grandmother's table.
Buildings have rules. Noise from moves is normally limited to weekday daytime hours — check the notice in the entrance, because a Saturday move can be stopped by a neighbour with a phone. Protect the lift, protect the stairs, and photograph the common areas before and after. It is the cheapest insurance against a damage claim from the comunidad.
And tell the porter. In older buildings the porter controls the lift, the loading bay and whether the truck gets five minutes at the door. A week's notice and a small tip solve most of it.
A move from Barcelona to Cabrils or Llavaneres is priced on time, and the last kilometre is where the time goes: a narrow urbanización road, a gate a 12-metre truck cannot pass, a driveway on a slope. Send the company the exact pin and a photo of the access. Some villas need a smaller shuttle van for the final stretch, and that is a second vehicle on the invoice.
We can put you in touch with movers we have used ourselves, and time the handover so the flat is empty, clean and checked before you pay the first month.
